Somethin's A Brewin'

Corey Brewer had a breakout game tonight with this line:

6 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 1 block

The bad side… he shot 3 of 15.

What a great night for the rook! The funny thing is, it was the most akward defensive performance I think I’ve ever seen. He was actually quite clumsy when he had the ball in his hands. It looked like his mind was moving faster than his body, so his body was constantly trying to keep up! That’s the only way I can explain it. Yet, he had 4 steals and 5 assists! Amazing really.

The obvious question is… do you pick him up? I say not yet, unless you are in a very deep league. This was against the Hawks, who play small, up-tempo and miss a lot of shots; a good formula for defensive rebounding. Plus, he’s a rookie and not in the class of Durant or Al Horford, therefore he will have some major ups and downs. His shot is not where it needs to be, as he is very streaking, so you can expect a lot of single digit scoring nights.

That being said, he is the starting small forward for the wolves now, as they care more about developing their young talent than winning ball games at this stage of the franchise. Corey is also a very active player. He runs up and down the court with a lot of energy. You should have seen how winded he was at the end of the game! He is very long and quite athletic, which helps greatly in the defensive categories. Therefore, if you are a fan and believe he could do something this year, go ahead and pick him up. Just expect a lot of inconsistency.
